Hapag-Lloyd Container Line is participating with other international liner companies in 'Inttra', the container shipping Internet portal. For customers this means considerable less outlay on communication with logistics partners.
Günther Casjens, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Container Line, explains the reasons for Hapag-Lloyd's participation in 'Inttra', the International Transportation Portal in the Internet, as follows: "All logistics suppliers, just like all importers and exporters, have their own EDP applications with increasingly networked systems. We want to make data exchange convenient for our customers by participating in a joint Internet portal, supplementing Hapag-Lloyd's own website and EDI links. The single point of entry enables users - particularly firms working with several logistics partners - to save time and costs."
'Inttra' is a neutral portal providing information initially supplied by Hapag-Lloyd and five other European liner companies as the investors - P & O Nedlloyd, Maersk Sealand, Hamburg-Süd, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co. and CMA CGM.
The portal offers shippers access to the transport information provided by all participating shipping lines. A top priority in the design of 'Inttra' was ensuring a reliable supply of up-to-date information. Via a neutral interface customers can see all relevant data relating to their consignments for feeding into their IT systems, irrespective of the shipping line with which they have booked.
The standardization of data that this involves makes the information flow along the transport chain more transparent and comprehensive. Initially, transport data is being supplied to enable shippers to see the status of their consignments at any time. The range of services is then to be extended with bookings inquiries, schedule data and the option of booking cargo direct.
Günther Casjens sums up: "We recently revamped our website, as we regard the Internet as a particularly important medium. In this respect, participation in the Internet portal represents a logical continuation of our strategy of offering innovative solutions."
